day/evening at the Sydney Opera House

Wednesday, 1/22, started very early with a 6:45 a.m."Behind the Scenes" tour of the Sydney Opera House.  One reason for the early time of the tour was because the crew was setting up for the opera, La Bohe'me.  With Suanne as our tour guide (pictured above) we were able to enjoy an insider's view of this world-class opera house.  Didn't we all look stylish in our yellow safety vests!

In addition to seeing the Concert Hall, the Joan Sutherland Theatre, the Drama Theatre, the Playhouse, and the Studio Theatre, we were able to step into the orchestra pit (which can hold 70 musicians), see the dressing rooms - including the Main Conductor's dressing room....where one of our fellow tourists played the Steinway piano for us, and sit in the Green Room, the exclusive domain of the staff and performers.

The Opera House was formally completed in 1973, having cost $102 million.

Tom & I will be returning to the Opera House tonight to see "SIX', a musical theater performance in the Studio Theatre. The musical is a modern retelling of the lives of the six wives of Henry VIII presented as a pop concert, as the wives take turns singing and telling their story to see who suffered the most due to Henry and should therefore become the group's lead singer.  It should be fun!
