Blue Mountains and Featherdale Wildlife Park
Today was a VERY long day. We were picked up at our hotel at 7:15 a.m. for a small group tour with our guide, Scotty, to the Blue Mountains and the Featherdale Wildlife Park, returning back to our hotel around 6:30 p.m. via a ferry ride.
On our way to the Blue Mountains, we were fortunate to see some kangaroo in the wild.
The views in the Blue Mountains were awesome; gorgeous vistas with the Blue Haze phenomenon, and the famous Three Sisters rock formation.
While in the Blue Mountains we experienced 4 different scenic modes of transportation:
Scenic Railway - at a 52degree incline it is the steepest passenger train in the world.
Scenic Skyway - gliding between cliff tops above the Jamison Valley at 886 feet, it is the highest cable car in Australia.
Scenic Cableway - descending 1,788 feet into the Jamison Valley on Australia's biggest cable car, it can carry 84 people.
Scenic Walkway - leisurely stroll amongst ancient, temperate rainforest; the longest elevated boardwalk in Australia.
Featherdale Wildlife Park - one of Australia's largest collection of native animals and bird life.
We were able to see wombats, dingos, crocodiles, kangaroos - including a mother with an albino baby in her pouch (look closely at the picture above), Tasmanian devil, and Koalas.
We were able to interact with "Lawson" - petting him as we were photographed.
A most enjoyable day - so much to see and much to learn!
Now I am packing as we embark on our Viking Cruise ship - the Orion - tomorrow.....luggage to be picked up outside our hotel room at 8:00 a.m.
Tom is very happy he does not have to carry the suitcases onto the ship!
I would have loved being with you today. I can only imagine the beauty of the vistas. To be able to see so many of the native animals. Do you see or smell any signs of the fires?
ReplyDeleteI will be interested in your impressions of the Viking ship the Orion. And, how good is the internet.
No signs of the fires in Sydney. It will be interesting to see IF we see anything when we head to Melbourne on Monday, 1/27.....hope not.
DeleteWe are anxious to see how Viking cruises are, compared to other lines....we have only heard good things from others who have sailed with them. Will let you know!
Oh my gosh ...you got to be so close and touch a Koala!! That is so awesome!! The Kangaroo looks so so cute all wrapped up! Only animals you can see in Australia! I agree with Terri would have loved to be with you today!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful park! I am sure all the vegetation is very different from what you would see in the US.
