at Sea - Tasmania to Dunedin, New Zealand
"New Zealand's most pristine coastal region, Te Wahipounamu stretches about 280 miles along the West Coast of the South Island. The Maori named this breathtaking expanse "the place of greenstone", as this was the source of the precious stone they harvested to make tools and jewelry. This wonderland of alpine peaks hosts hundreds of active glaciers, snow-capped summits, azure lakes and deep-cut fjords fed by countless rivulets and thundering waterfalls.
Te Wahipounamu embraces four of the nation's national parks, including Fiordland, home to Milford and Doubtful Sounds, and the renowned Franz Josef Glacier. Isolated and untouched for millennia, it is thought to harbor the purest flora and fauna species from the primeval super-continent of Gondwana."
Thursday, 1/30 and Friday, 1/31
2 days at sea traveling from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia to Dunedin, New Zealand -
1,006 nautical miles (1,158 miles) through the Tasman Sea.
On Wednesday night (1/29), we had to adjust our watches and clocks - moving them 1 hour ahead.
"Straight from sold-out shows in Las Vegas & also at the iconic Sydney Opera House, this amazing Aria Award winning violin virtuoso truly makes the violin speak with songs from Leonard Cohen, Josh Groban, Air Supply, Paul McCartney, and many more."
A most enjoyable day and evening at sea.
I want to know how your packing is working out? Enough clothes. There must be laundry services available while at sea.
ReplyDeleteWhile packing was a bit "difficult" - planning for 2-month journey, I did quite well.
DeleteYes, there are laundry and dry cleaning services available....complimentary to us due to our stateroom level - which was a pleasant surprise.
I had planned to do laundry once while we were on-board, but now have had it done a couple of times for free. Nice way to travel!
What type of activities are offered during the day aboard the ship while at sea?
ReplyDeleteThere are lectures and presentations each day - many covering information and history on the locations we are visiting.
DeleteIn addition, there are 4 on-board guest lecturers....a National Park Service's Chief Historian; a professional research astronomer and the Chief Astronomer at the Parkes Observatory in Australia; a retired master mariner and a marine historian with extensive knowledge of square-rigged sailing ships; and an acclaimed award-winning artist whose specialty is Australian wildlife.
There are also a number of game tables, various game challenges, & workshops. There is a sports deck (golf, shuffleboard, & outdoor exercise equipment), and Spa.
Afternoon Tea is offered each day. A musical performance is presented each evening in the theater. And throughout the day/evening, there are individual musicians performing various genres.
Lots to choose from - although we are mostly relaxing.
