Maui with Bill & Quinn

Tuesday, February 18 - Monday, 2/24/2020
Cousins Bill & Quinn (Scholle) travel from Texas (via Colorado) to spend a week in "Paradise" with us on Maui.

Bill and Quinn have a time-share at The Westin....just a short distance from where we are staying at the Ka'anapoli Beach Hotel.
After a long flight to Maui, they are ready for dinner and cocktails....so we are off to Duke's Beach House, a short walk on The Westin's grounds.  Great food and even better sunset - Welcome to Maui!

After a good night sleep, they are ready to explore Maui with us.

One of the best views of why Maui is referred to as "The Valley Isle" is the Iao Valley & Iao Needle.
"Iao Valley State Park in central Maui is home to the Iao Needle, one of Maui's most recognizable landmarks standing at 1,200 feet. Traditional Hawaiian lore says that the park was the final resting place for some of the island's highest ranking chiefs. Once a sacred alter, this natural section of rock arching upwards surrounded by the vast crater of Pu'u Kukui is a sight to behold, flanked with emerald peaks and overlooking the sparkling Iao Stream."

One of our favorite restaurants is the Plantation House at Kapalua located in the club house of the Plantation Golf Course on the 18th Fairway.

A visit to Maui in the winter, would not be complete without Whale Watching.....how perfect that Bill & Quinn were able to visit during the peak season - typically running between mid-January and March.

In Lahaina, where we embarked on the Whale Watching excursion, is the Banyan Tree.
"Spanning 1.94 acres—over the length of a city block—and rising more than 60 feet in the air, Lahaina’s famed banyan tree is a quarter of a mile in circumference and possesses 16 trunks, making it the largest banyan tree not only in Hawaii but also in the United States (and one of the most massive in the world)."

Exploring Ka'anapoli Beach was also a highlight - walking the beach walk from our hotel past Whaler's Village (with the huge whale skeleton) and ending at the Hyatt hotel - where we enjoyed a shaved ice treat - special with homemade ice cream in the bottom....YUM!

Our final dinner together was at the Sea House restaurant in Napili Kai Resort.....great setting with a beautiful sunset (and a delicious meal).  What a special time we were able to share on Maui - "our home away from home" in Paradise with Bill and Quinn.
