Queenstown, New Zealand - Day 1

Sunday, February 9, 2020
This morning we flew from Auckland in the North Island of New Zealand to Queenstown in the South Island of New Zealand......and WOW, what a difference in the topography!
While the North Island of New Zealand is lovely, the South Island is breathtakingly beautiful.

After we landed in Queenstown, we immediately boarded a small (7-seater) fixed-wing, single-prop plane for a scenic flyover.  Tom sat in the front of the plane with the pilot, Jackson.

We flew over the Southern Alps to Milford Sound - with panoramic views of Lake Wakatipu and glacier-fed braided rivers as we flew along the Dart River Valley into Mt. Aspiring National Park. The breath-taking scenery continued into Fiordland National Park, out over the rugged West Coast and the Tasman Sea before flying into Milford Sound - flying down the middle of the Fiord.
